Tomorrow night will be the Autumn Moon Festival, the second largest and second most important festival in China, and a favorite in our house. For the second year in a row, Amelia and I have attempted to make our own mooncakes, although every Chinese person I had talked to about it says that no one makes their own, they all buy them. Since we were on vacation this year, we didn't get a chance to get to our local Asian market to buy them, so we made them again. They turned out much better than last year, but still are a long way from the beautiful mooncakes you can buy. (The ones in the photo are NOT the ones that I made!) At least we have fun doing it, and Amelia really looks forward to helping me with them.
So we are looking forward to eating them tomorrow night, reading a story about Chang E, watching the full moon, and thinking of loved ones who are far away from us who might be looking at the same moon. And of course, we will think about and wonder about Amelia's birthfamily and think about our little sister/daughter that we are waiting to meet.
